Summer is coming! It’s time to have fun and “warau” with your friends!

“Warau” 笑う is the verb which means “Laughing” or “Smiling” in Japanese!

The chinese character is also used to write “a smile” : “Egao” “笑顔”. (Smiling + Face)

Nowadays, the internet culture has taken over our society and many new communication techniques have emerged.
People who are tired (or too lazy) to type full words are often using short versions.
In English, to say “Laughing out loud”, everybody is using “LOL”.

There is something similar in Japanese, instead of “Warau” 笑う, young people write (笑) or” w”.
This “w” is the first letter of “Warau” , and if you go on the video platform Nico Nico Dôga or on some forums, you’ll often see “wwwwwwww” to express hilarity.

Note this is an internet slang you can use with close friends, but avoid using it in a polite email.
