So last month I went to a fashion show held in 杉野ドレスメーカー学院 (Sugino Doresumeeka Gakuin), or also well known as ドレメ (Doreme).
The fashion show was held in order to show students’ final project upon their graduation.
As you can see in the thumbnail, do you recognize something familiar?
Yes! A batik pattern on the girl’s skirt.
I do realize that some of you guys must have interested in studying fashion in Japan, and create cool stuff by learning from the experts.
Doing that, and not forgetting about your origin is a different story.

Q : How long have you been in Japan?
A : I’ve been here for 3 years.
Q : How old are you? Where are you come from?
A : I am 24 years old, from Jakarta.

Q : What's your current major at Sugino?
A : It used to be Customizing pattern design course(感性産業デザインコース), but now it’s industrial pattern course.
Q : Can you explain about the concept of your design?
A : It’s about combining sewing techniques and repetitive accents all together in an evening wear.
Q : What/who is your biggest inspiration in doing the design? Do you have something in particular that influenced your work?
A : The beauty of indonesian fabrics and the fabrics called Batik and Songket!
Q : Your model are so pretty! Are they your friends?
A : No. I found some from model mayhem and some are my friend's friend.
Q : What will you do next?
A : I will be working as a pattern maker in a school uniform company.
Q : Can you give some advice, tips, for our readers that have interest in fashion, and thinking about studying in Japan?
A : I think how Japanese pattern making are slightly different from other countries they're worth to study for.
Studying the language might be a challenging task, but when you understand it, you can dive and understand the way Japanese people think and how they work!
