Face Up, Shape Up!_Oh!Japan Why?_vol.29

It is no secret that Japanese people care very much about their appearances.

Short of going under the knife and getting plastic surgery, I have recently found an innovative way to change your facial features -- through facial massages and exercise!
In the next few articles, I will introduce some interesting health and beauty tools that is available in the Japanese market.
If you like it, perhaps you can get it when you visit Japan.

The tool that I will introduce to your today is the Shape up, Face up!
Doesn’t it look interesting?
Basically, the Shape up, Face up is a facial exercise tool made of a bar with weights on both ends, and a centerpiece that protrudes out in the shape of a mouth piece.
To use the Shape up, Face up, you just put the mouthpiece in your mouth, grit it with your teeth, and start bouncing up and down.
Looks like a lot of fun, but I would be careful to only use it at home!

According to the brochure, the Shape up, Face up is supposed to enhance the muscles you use to smile by deepening and strengthening them.
When used frequently enough, your facial muscles will the strengthened a certain way, you will soon attain a beautiful smile with deep smile lines.
Not only that, the corners of your mouth will have a more defined shape and your jawline better defined.
I was initially quite dubious of the product, but then..
The brand managed to get Christiano Ronaldo to be its ambassador!
Given his beautiful smile in the advertisement, I was slightly swayed and became less suspicious of the product’s effectiveness.

Unfortunately, at a price of ¥13,824 (the product can be found in Loft Shibuya), I am afraid I will not be able to afford it on my meager student finances.
As such, I will never be able to facial changing powers of the Shape up, Face up.
I guess I will have to live with my not-quite attractive smile till I save up enough money for it.
However, if you do manage to get an Shape up, Face up and try it out, please update us on your progress!
