Happy Independence Day! Merdeka!

20140817-01-2

How are you guys? It's Navio again.

And on this very special day, the 69th birthday of our beloved country, Indonesia, I want to share my story about waving the Indonesian flag

on the summit of Mt.Fuji, Japan.

Mt. Fuji - 3,776 m, is one of the famous active volcano mountains in Japan.

I finally got the chance to step on the summit of this iconic mountain of Japan last summer, the year of 2013.

Me and my friends climbed on 14th August 2013 (at night) and arrived on the summit on the next day, 15th August 2013.

It's a good way to spend your time on summer! I mean, you will get an unforgettable adventure and of course, amazing photos and stories to be told to your relatives and friends. Let's say that you are the first guy in the group to set your feet on the summit of this giant! How awesome!

Here are some of my pics waving our national flag, merah putih, on the very top of the mountain. Since today's our country's Independence Day, I think it's the right time to share the tips with you guys:

Climbing Mt. Fuji - Tips and Tricks:

1) Wear a jacket! Or a wind-breaker, make yourself warm. Because it's super cold at the summit, especially when you stay still watching the sunrise. A head cover (cap, beanie, etc.) and a pair of gloves sound good too! Cover up!

2) Big heavy bags? No! Bring snacks like chocolate or candies to resupply your energy. Eat a heavy meal before you climb up. Bringing a bento-set is not recommended, because you'll have to take care of the trash (or the leftover) and you don't really have time to stop and eat slowly if you want to make it to the summit right when the sun rises.

3) Buying climbing-sticks as a souvenir. This one is optional, some people might want the stick and the stamp that you can collect at every post on your way to the top. But it's kinda annoying to bring a long stick back to where you live. And you won't use it later anyway. Me? I didn't buy any. Still made it to the top though :))

4) Wear comfortable shoes. Good climbing shoes are highly recommended! But normal sneakers will work just fine, there's no need to buy a pair of climbing shoes if you don't feel like it.

5) Go with friends! The more the merrier. Chat, sing, tell jokes on your way to the top. You will forget the fatigue and your adventure will be more interesting and fun.

Here's my photo with a random guy in doraemon suit. Hahaha

8 hours to get to the summit, and around 5+ hours to get down. Above all preparations, make sure your body, especially your legs are ready!

MERDEKA!
