Hi friends!

Today, we’ll discuss another simple, yet, versatile word… “Doumo(どうも).”

Doumo(どうも)” is a friendly, casual word that can be used as a greeting, but also to express gratitude – in other words, it’s like “hello” and “thank you,” or maybe even “hello and thank you!”

If you run into someone you know on the street, you can greet him.

Friend: Erika! Good to see you!

Me: Doumo(どうも)! (meaning hello)

If a stranger holds the elevator door open for you, you can thank her.

Stranger: Douzo (どうぞ)(come on in)

Me: Doumo(どうも)! (meaning thank you)

If you run into a friend on the street, and he holds the door open for you…

Friend: Erika!  Good to see you!  Come on in!

Me: Doumo(どうも)! (meaning hello and thank you)
