The Hakodate Bay area is a wonderful place for an evening stroll and as night falls, the whole area is lit up with pretty twinkling lights. Great spot for a date with your sweetheart, my though.
One of the landmarks in the area is the Kanemori red brick warehouses. Date back to 1859, Hakodate Port opened one of the first international trading ports of Japan, along with Yokohama and Nagasaki. Flourishing as a Port, the city has seen countless people and cultures come and go. Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse, the first commercial warehouse in Hakodate, has witnessed the history of the city through its warehousing business. As one of the symbols of the Hakodate bay area that still reminds us much of the early days of the shipping industry, Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse will continue to witness the history of Hakodate forever and offer every visitor a beautiful, unforgettable time with housing a number of restaurants and shops.
The warehouse basically divided into 3 places:-
-Kanemori Yobutuskan
-Hakodate History Plaza
-Bay Hakodate
Kanemori Yobutuskan
Where the place imported imaginative culture gathered from across time and place. It was nearly 130 years ago that the first Kumashiro Watanabe launched Kanemori Yobutsu Ten, the “shop selling exotic dreams.” With the theme of the first Watanabe’s,“rich Western culture,” the “Kanemori Yobutsu Kan” offers a series of unique shops, like daily fun flea markets.
Hakodate History Plaza
The place of understanding Meiji romanticism was integrated into the new culture in the red brick warehouse built nearly 100 years ago. Hakodate History Plaza includes a variety of fun retailers including the Hakodate Beer Hall, Hakodate Romankan, Wagon Shop, Sen’en Kobo (1000-yen Workshop) and a handmade rice cracker shop. Its centre features an exhibition hall showing the history.
Bay Hakodate
The place connecting the past and future; a canal flowing with timeless. BAY Hakodate shows an aspect different from the Kanemori Warehouse. Its symbol is the trench which was constructed around 1882. The chapel, cruising and cafe are located around this trench, of which the illumination is also beautiful. My personal opinion, this is the best place to dating!
Kanemori red brick warehouses is my place to hang out every time I visited Hakodate. Although is the same place, but the season makes the feel not same. When you step foot at Kanemori red brick warehouses, be sure to try Pastry Snaffle’s it was the best cheesecake of my life!
Too good!
