Hello minna san,
Ghina is reporting.

Have you ever tried Japanese home cooking meal? If you’ve ever been invited to eat at Japanese people’s house, stayed at a ryokan (hot spring inn), or done homestay at a citizen’s house, you must have experienced eating that. This kind of meal usually comes in a set with several kinds of mini dishes, that in Japanese language, is called “Teishoku.”
Many Japanese restaurants in Indonesia serve teishoku but only a few dedicate themselves to serve the authentic one. To know a restaurant serves authentic meal is to see many Japanese eating there. Also, not many Indonesians, though they love Japanese food, are familiar with authentic taste of Japanese home cuisine.

Japanese authentic teishoku restaurant in Serpong

One of the restaurants that serve authentic teishoku is Ootoya. My friend and I had lunch at one of its branches at AEON Mall, Serpong. It has a fake food display in front of the entrance, just like in Japan. The interior of the restaurant is just simple with wood element and black color theme. It has also semi open kitchen.

After being confused for a while because all the meal looked so delicious, I finally ordered Chirashi Set, a bowl of rice topped with salmon, squid, shrimp, tamago, kyuuri (Japanese cucumber), nori, and tobiko, also pickled ginger and wasabi that placed beside the rice. It came with a bowl of miso soup, chawan mushi, pickles, sautéed vegetables, and soyu. Chirashi is actually sushi in a bowl. The rice is exactly a sushi rice but instead of being shaped like a ball, it is placed in a bowl, also the usual sushi ingredients are cut dice shape and spreaded on the rice.

My friend ordered Gyu Sumi Tei set. The main meal is beef with sweet soy sauce that is grilled on a hot stone. It came with a bowl of rice, a bowl of miso soup, salad, mashed potato, and pickles. The hot stone was still on a plate to keep the beef warm.

We also ordered grilled salmon head that came with a bowl of grated daikon. The authentic way to eat this, you have to add a little splash of soy sauce onto the grated daikon, then take a little bit of it and put it on a piece of salmon head meat and you eat it. It tasted so delicious. The mix taste of refreshing daikon and umami salmon was unbeatable.

We love the food. All tasted delicious and authentic. The service was also good. The waitresses were friendly and knowledgeable about the food when we asked, also fast refilling your ocha without being asked. The food came fast and looked so beautiful. Overall, it was satisfying. I would love to go back again someday to try another menu.

The set price is expensive enough for Indonesian standard, but that is the standard price if you eat teishoku in Japan. The portion is also big enough. But don’t worry, Ootoya has a la carte option without those extra side dishes that is cheaper. It only consists main meal and a bowl of rice. So if you want to try it on budget or you are not a big eater, you can order a la carte one. Ootoya also has Okosama Lunch, a set menu for children, so it is definitely family friendly.

Here it is the video about Ootoya:
