Hi, friends, this is me again, Evi. After last time I wrote about Japanese noodle and the noodle restaurant, this time I’m going to write about another famous food in Japan. I’m sure you going to love this food.
As Indonesian people, I believe that satay is one of the most famous foods in my country. Satay is seasoned, skewered and grilled meat, served with a condiment sauce. Sometimes it’s peanut sauce, but you also can find it serve with sweet soya sauce and chopped chili. Most of people here love satay. Almost every region in Indonesia has own version of satay. We use chicken, beef, bull, duck, and some people make satay from rabbit meat. Yes, today I’m going to tell you about satay, but not the Indonesian one, I will talk about the Japanese style of satay.
Japanese chicken satay is famous with name Yakitori. Some sources wrote that Yakitori appeared in the middle of 17th Century. Nowadays most of Yakitori is made from chicken, but Yakitori was originally made from pheasant, quail, and pigeon. Not only because that eating of chicken, beef and other meat was essentially prohibited in Japan due to Buddhism, but also chicken is a high price commodity back at that time. Time after time, the overseas culture led to chicken being regularly eaten until now.
Yakitori, is really a popular dish in Japan, everybody loves it. Not only youngsters but also adult. We all know that Japanese food is one of most famous foreign food in Indonesia, we can easily find Japanese restaurant everywhere, not only in big city like Jakarta. Most of us know ramen, udon, and beef bowl very well, but Yakitori is a little bit late bloomer here. Several years ago, it will be quite hard to find a yakitori restaurant or stall in Jakarta.
Thankfully that game already change now, finding a Yakitori restaurant is no longer hard here. This time I tried the Toridoll Yakitori restaurant that located in Kota Kasablaka Mall, Food Society Section in Central Jakarta.
Toridoll Yakitori claimed their place as Japanese-Style-Family-Dining Yakitori Pub where any people feel free to enjoy eating and drinking. Toridoll want brings a fresh and modern concept of Yakitori restaurant to the community. When you across this restaurant from the outside, they do have such an eye-catching decoration. With wood material, mural on their wall, a little touch of rainbow colour, and some semi open kitchen area. Since I’m a visual people, the decoration do attracted me and finally made me stepped in to their restaurant. Such a cozy Japanese pop restaurant they have.
As their name is Toridoll Yakitori, this restaurant main dish is Yakitori. They served several kind of Yakitori in here such as chicken skewer that made from chicken tight, gizzard, skin, liver and wings. They also has beef skewer that they called gyudon skewer, and also fish skewer that made from fresh salmon. For those who love vegetables, Toridoll Yakitori also served vegetables skewers like zuchinni, shitake mushroom, nasu (eggplant), mini potato, and tomatoes.

I went there for breakfasting with my sister and friends and we ordered two portions of Osaka set-10 Kushi Moriawase, 4 portions of gohan (rice), and 4 glasses of ocha. Each portion of Osaka Set contains with 2 Negima (Chicken thigh and green onions skewer), 2 Tsukune (Minced chicken skewer), 2 Torimi (Chicken thigh skewer), 2 Kimo (Chicken liver skewer), and 2 Sunazuri (Chicken gizzard skewer).

It took about 10 minutes before my order ready to be served. They served the yakitori in a square blue plate and gave us Shio (savoury) sauce as a condiment. Actually you can choose between Shio (savoury) and Tare (sweet) sauce, but I’m a savoury team when it comes into food condiment. Even thought a little bit pricey but Toridoll Yakitori does have such a nice taste of yakitori comparing to another yakitori that I ever taste before. Chicken thigh was so chewy and juicy; gizzard taste so nice, their shio sauce also taste so good, I even poured it in my gohan, incredibly oishii. Well, my favourite must be Tsukune Skewer. It is one of the BEST!!!

In the menu book, I read that they can serve yakitori with mini grill and use Bincho Zumi, the traditional charcoal of Japan made from Ubame Gashi Oak. Too bad they didn’t gave me the mini grill. Maybe I should ask for it next time.
If you want to try another Japanese food, you also can order it in here. Toridoll Yakitori serves another several kinds of Japanese Food like cawan mushi, agedashi tofu, yakisoba, donburi, and also tempura. At the current time, Toridoll Yakitori has two branches in Indonesia. One in Gandaria City and another in Kota Kasablanka.
