Amanatto Kawamura is located in Nishi Chaya District, one of the three chaya districts of Kanazawa.
Since it opened in 2001, it has grown in popularity through word-of-mouth and is now known nationwide as a famous sweetened adzuki bean shop.
These sweetened beans take full advantage of the taste of the ingredients and don’t use any preservatives or additives.
Much care is taken when preparing these beans, as pristine water with high-quality charcoal is used to boil the beans in the pot and natural materials such as mushrooms and seaweed are used for the sugar that is essential for preparing sweetened adzuki beans.
These high-quality sweetened beans are prepared while making adjustments for the cooking time and the amount of sugar used depending on the variety, hardness, and size of the beans.

The owner was trained at a long-established Japanese sweets shop in Kyoto, and is also a vegetable sommelier who has acquired certifications as a junior vegetable & fruits meister from the Japan Vegetable & Fruit Meister Association.
This owner who is also a vegetable and fruits specialist directly visits producers in search of the best ingredients and only buys ingredients that are up to his exacting standards so that he can make sweetened beans using methods that are suitable for each ingredient.
This is the key to the deliciousness of these products.

The shop offers over different types of 15 sweetened beans, with a focus on local products such as Ohama soybean and Goroujima sweet potatoes, as well as dainagon (large adzuki beans), peas, chickpeas, tiger beans, chestnuts, and seasonal products.
Other popular products include youkan and Goroujima candied sweet potatoes.
The attractive packages designed by the owner’s wife are another reason for the shop’s popularity.
You will find them so charming that you will want to collect them all.
They are great for taking with you, as they make for perfect souvenirs or gifts.

Although Amanatto Kawamura is now regularly featured on TV and in magazines, somewhat unfortunately for tourists there is only one shop, and its products are not available over the Internet or at department stores and train stations.
However, you can find these sweetened beans at the cafe Momogumi in the Higashi Chaya District and the Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art.
It is also possible to order them over the telephone if you really want them and you cannot visit Kanazawa.
