Anmitsu is a dessert that can be found everywhere in Japan, from cafe, tea houses as well as convenience shops.


This dessert is a an assortment of various ingredients served in a bowl covered with kuromitsu, brown sugar cane syrup.

You’ll find usually some “and” red bean paste, some fruits like tangerine, peach or cherries, “dango” rice dumpling, and kanten, a jelly made with seaweed. 


Since kanten is 100% vegetal, it’s also suitable for muslims.

The bowl of anmitsu can also be topped with kinako, roasted soybean flour, with ice cream or whipped cream.



This one is topped with a generous amount of kinako.

This dessert offers a lot of various flavors and textures, it’s also very pleasant to see all those beautiful colors.



Usually anmitsu is served with some green tea, the bitterness of the tea gives a good balance with the sweetness of the dessert.
