Here is a new entry in the dorayaki quest this week with an autumn fruit : fig.
Fig is very popular as an autumn fruit in Japan, but since it’s a very fragile fruit, the best way to use it all year long is to enjoy it as jam.
At the beginning, I was very surprised to find this fig jam dorayaki, it was the first time I saw this flavor.
From the outside, it’s like a plain dorayaki, but inside there’s a layer of fig jam on top of the red bean paste.
Since there are seeds in the fig jam, you can feel some nice crunchy feeling when eating the dorayaki.
This dorayaki was made with classic red bean paste, but it would taste also very good with white bean paste I think.
You can find this unusual dorayaki in the 100 yen shop chain called Can Do.
There’s a lot of Can Do shops all around Japan.
