Tama is in the southwestern part of Tokyo famous for their all-natural kuroyu onsen, Tokyo Summerland (which is sort of similar to Sunway Lagoon), and Sanrio Puroland where the Hello Kitty Theme Park is. Shop for Japanese goods at shopping complexes after a fun time at Tama!

Fashion: Mitsui Shopping Park Tokyo Tama

Known as Mitsui Outlet Park Tama Minami Osawa, you can find the latest Japanese fashion items and seasonal fruits at the shopping centre. In summer, you can also enjoy the summer sale where various items such as tote bags around 1,000 yen to 1,500 yen and pouches being sold at prices starting from 500 yen. United Arrows and Beams outlet are two of the more popular and trendy stores you’ll want to visit for Japanese clothes.

We would recommend meat lovers to also try out various cuisine at the Tokyo Meatrea which is nearby. It is open from 11.00am to 10.00pm. You can eat while you walk around, and there are various limited-time menu items which are tailored according to the season. If you want to learn more about cuisine, there is also an exhibition for meat dishes with a concept of ‘Meat dishes from A to Z’.

Desserts: Cocolia Tama

Wagashi, Japanese desserts, is one of the unmissable items to try in Tama. A large variety of wagashi can be found at Cocolia Tama, which is in the 7th rank of tourist attraction spots in Tama. On the B1 floor, there is a corner where you can buy Western or Japanese confectionery from established dessert shops. Try out Navona, a Japanese sweet made by Kameyamannendo (亀屋万年堂), a wagashi shop that was established in 1938.

On the sixth floor, there are also various restaurants and cafes where you can dine and rest. Some restaurants have an ‘all you can eat’ service such as Gyuta which serves sukiyaki and shabu shabu, which is basically Japanese-style hot pot.

A shopping center for the youth and families, there are often indies band performances and events for families at Cross Garden Tama such as fishing for snacks and the summer sale. While it isn’t as new as Cocolia or as stylish as Mitsui Outlet, Cross Garden has plenty of fun facilities like a Namco playpark and Kimono School (it costs 5,000 yen for 10 beginner classes!).

Also, you don’t have to go to Akihabara for anime goods! There is an Animate at Cross Garden Tama where you can shop for quality anime goods. If you’re not a big fan of anime, there is also a 100 yen shop called Seria which sells handicrafts and stationery.
