The Top 5 Late Blooming Cherry Blossom Spots in Tokyo!

Cherry blossoms start to bloom in the Kanto Area of Japan from mid February. Various species of cherry blossoms start fully blooming one after another. However, there are some places where you can still enjoy viewing the cherry blossom which only bloom in Mid-May. There is also a Japanese proverb saying, "Good flowers bloom later", I believe you would enjoy these late blooming cherry blossom until the end of the cherry blossom’s season.

Shinjuku Gyoen

Shinjuku Gyoen is an oasis in Shinjuku where skyscrapers rise high. About 65 types in a total of 1,000 cherry blossom trees are blooming fully in this garden, where you are available to enjoy cherry blossom viewing for a long period. In addition, you can view about 300 Yae-Zakura trees which bloom gorgeously from early April until the end of April. The access to the garden is convenient as it is near to the train station. Besides this, it is an important cultural asset and a rare location in the city which allows you to enjoy the viewing of various flowers and culture.

Koganei Park

Koganei Park is a wide park that extends to 4 cities which are Koganei City, Musashino City, Kodaira City, and Nishitokyo City. About 50 types and a total of 1,700 cherry blossom trees are planted in this park. In particular, about 430 cherry blossom trees are gathered in the Sakura Garden, and the gorgeous view could be enjoyed here from the end of March to the end of April. It is also selected as one of the top 100 rankings of cherry blossom landscapes. Tamagawa Josui which is just beside this garden is also a recommended spot for cherry blossom viewing and walking. Annually, the "Koganei Sakura Festival" will be held in early April in this park.

Hakone Park

You can enjoy cherry blossom viewing alongside the magnificent scenery of Ashinoko Lake and Mt. Fuji, which is recorded as a National Registration Monument. It is also selected as one of 50 Kanagawa scenic attraction spots. You can enjoy the various types of cherry blossoms, and the latest blooming cherry blossom here in Hakone.

Chichibu

You can enjoy viewing the cherry blossom in various locations in the Chichibu area. For example, you can enjoy a variety of cherry blossom viewing at Nagatoro and Minoyama Park until early May. There are many recommended locations which you shouldn’t miss such as the cherry blossom tunnel connecting from Nagatoro station to Arakawa which is also selected and chosen as "Top Ranking 100 of Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots" and Yae cherry blossom which are growing along the road as well as double cherry blossoms along the road to Hodosan Shrine. There are direct trains that depart from the city area which take less than 2 hours to arrive. Therefore, it is known for its easy access and famous sightseeing attractions.

Sakura no Sato

Up to 45 types and 5,000 cherry blossom trees are growing in this large garden which is located at Myogi Mountain that is famous for its unique rocks. The contrast between the cherry blossoms and the strange rock has created this wonderful landscape. It is recommended for you to wear casual clothes and easy walking shoes since there are several small mountains and valleys in the park.
