Attractive traditional Japanese events

November is the month when the autumn leaves are at their peak. This month is a very beautiful month with the transition from autumn into winter. It is also the month which has many events, occasions, and anniversaries. Besides, there are many traditional Japanese events such as Shichigosan (七五三) and Niinamesai (新嘗祭) festival that are very typical events which for sure you would like to experience in Japan.

1. Torinoichi, which is held at Shinjuku Hanazono Shrine (新宿花園神社) in Tokyo.

This Tori-no-Ichi fair is held at the center of Tokyo, full with lively voice of hawker stall who sells lucky items such as decorative “Kumade(熊手)” which are used to wish for a better fortune and business. There are also a lot of shops which show the decorative item of Hanazono Shrine.

2. Local Grand Sumo November (Fukuoka)

This Grand Sumo Competition is held for 15 days in Kyushu, at November every year. The cheers to supports the local sumo wrestlers are much more loudly. During the period, you can always see a sumo wrestlers dress in Yukata everywhere in the city. Try to experience Japan traditional sports by watching this event live!

3.  Japan Fisherman's Festival 2019"National Fish Market & Fish Festival" in Tokyo

A grand event which you can taste the fish cuisine from all thorough Japan. The shops come from whole Japan, from Hokkaido to Okinawa, which they use the fish caught at the sea nearby their area to prepare the seafood cuisines during the event.

During the event, you can eat something special such as Seafood rice with 5 seafood topping which including Ikura, scallops, salmon, sea urchin and tanner crab, Anglerfish liver steamboat from Miyagi prefecture, grilled mackerel sushi Kyoto prefecture and Ayu charcoal grill from Niigata prefecture, etc.

4. Toyokawa Inari Autumn Festival (豊川稲荷秋季大祭) in Aichi

As a festival to pray on appreciation of harvest, “Mikoshitogyo" (神輿渡御) and “kindergarden kids’ queue" (稚児行列) are carried out during the festival. It is also called as "Ojochin Matsuri"(Big lantern festival 大提灯まつり) because the big lantern with 10 meter height and 5 meter diameter is raised, and lighten up the darkness. Besides, Taishogoto and Wadaiko performances are held at the stage, and “Inari Rakuichi” is held at the Omotesando shopping street. There are also a lot of other entertainment events such as street performances and specialty “Chindon” (shop with performance to attract customer).

5. Nagano Ebisu Firework Festival (長野えびす講煙火大会)

A fireworks festival which has a long history since 1899. It launches high-quality fireworks and have a crowd of more than 400,000 people every year. Every year, you can see the latest and new fireworks such as Music Star Mine which is the collaboration of music and fireworks, and Ultra-Wide Star Mine.

  • Date: The firework festival in 2019 has been cancelled because of typhoon
