Enjoy Art and Nature at Hakone's POLA MUSEUM OF ART

The POLA MUSEUM OF ART exhibits the works of famous painters in the world such as Monet, Renoir, and Picasso. In addition, the beautiful glass building is designed to be in harmony with the nature of Hakone. There is a promenade on site where you can spend time taking a walk leisurely.

POLA MUSEUM OF ART

The POLA MUSEUM OF ART opened in Hakone-cho of Kanagawa Prefecture in 2002. In the museum, works assembled in the museum collection over a period of 40 years by Suzuki Tsuneshi, son of the founder of Pola Orbis Holdings, Inc., are on display. It has a total of about 10,000 items, including Western Paintings, Japanese western-style Paintings, Nihonga (Japanese-style paintings), woodblock prints, Oriental Ceramics and Glassworks. You can admire local and foreign masterpieces which are mainly the works of Impressionists such as Monet and Renoir. The building of the Museum was designed based on the concept of "symbiosis between Hakone's natural beauty and the works of art". The galleries employ lighting that allows the Impressionist works to be seen at its best. Visitors to this museum can appreciate superb art works in a light-filled architectural space with nature's lush greenery.

Highlights of POLA MUSEUM OF ART

Claude Monet, Water Lily Pond 1899

Claude Monet produced a series of water lilies painting, and one of the works among them "Water Lily Pond" is on display at the POLA MUSEUM OF ART. It is the most popular work at the museum. You can also see "Girl in a Lace Hat", a work of the French painter, Pierre Auguste Renoir. Other works by Paul Cezanne, Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh are also on display. To add, there is a promenade on site where you can take a walk and look at the nature. It is recommended to find and look at the sculptures along the promenade walk where art works harmonize with the nature.

Opening hours of POLA MUSEUM OF ART

The opening hours of the POLA MUSEUM OF ART are 9:00~17:00 (No admission after 4:30 pm). It opens daily all year round but may be closed occasionally for display renewal. Admission fee is 1,800 yen for adults, 1,600 yen for those aged 65 or above, 1,300 yen for University / high school students and 700 yen for Junior high school / elementary school students (Admission free on Saturdays) *Junior high school students or younger will be free from 10th August, 2019.

Access to POLA MUSEUM OF ART

To access POLA MUSEUM OF ART from Tokyo, go from Tokyo Station to JR Odawara Station. Then, take the Hakone Tozan Railway and get off at Hakone-Yumoto Station. Change to the Hakone Tozan Railway bound for Gora and get off at Gora Station. Take the “KANKO SHISETSU-MEGURI” bus bound for "HAKONE BOTANICAL GARDEN OF WETLANDS" stop (about 13 minutes) and get off at "POLA MUSEUM OF ART" stop.
