Kusatsu Onsen Ski Resort was established in the Taisho era, with historical backstories. It was the first ski resort in Japan to have gondolas. The famous Kusatsu hot spring is just within reach and the convenience and nice combination of winter sports and hot spring attracts many visitors. The resort has 8 gondola lines, 5 slopes and 6 ski courses, with the total length of course reaches 4,300m. The slope goes from 1,600m to 1,245m, with an altitude difference of 355m. Snow trails are also available for trekking with your snowshoes, along with a park for kids. You can also rent everything you need there.

Opening Period of Kusatsu Onsen Ski Resort

Usually “Kusatsu Onsen Ski Resort” is opened from 15th December to around 31st March. Be mindful that there are occasional closure and changes of opening hours.

Information about the Gondolas and Kids Park

The gondola ride is in service from 8:30 am – 4:45 pm in weekdays and 8:00 – 4:45pm in weekends (until 9:00 for night ski). Different gondola lines serve on different days at different times. The Kid Park opens from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. All service time are subject to changes stemmed from the snowing conditions. Gondola fare (1-day pass) is 4,000 yen for adults, 3,000 yen for juniors (elementary school kids at or above the age of 4) and 3,600 yen for seniors (at or above the age of 60). The kids ticket (1-day pass and admission of the Kid Park, etc.) is available at 3,000 yen (preschool kids – age of 4).

Baggage Storage

Make use of the lockers in the changing room (free) and the coin lockers (300 yen each). And, store your oversize baggage at the information counter at 500 yen each.

To reach Kusatsu Onsen Ski Resort from Tokyo, get on Hokuriku Shinkansen at “Tokyo Station” and get off at “Karuizawa Station” (approx. 1hr 10mins). Take Kusatsu Kotsu Bus or Seibu Kanko Sightseeing Bus at the station and get off at “Kusatsu” (approx. 1hr 55 mins).
